Buttermilk Pound Cake

1 c. shortening
2 c. sugar
4 eggs
1/4 tsp. soda
1 c. buttermilk
3 c. all-purpose flour
1/4 tsp. salt
2 tbsp. vanilla extract
2 tbsp. lemon extract
Lemon Glaze
Combine shortening and sugar, creaming until light and fluffy. Add eggs, one at a time, beating well after each addition. Dissolve soda in buttermilk. Combine flour and salt; add to creamed mixture alternately with buttermilk, mixing well after each addition. Stir in flavorings.
Pour batter into greased and floured 10" tube pan. Bake at 350 degrees for 1 hour and 15 minutes or until cake tests done, by inserting a toothpick, that comes out clean. Cool 10 minutes; remove from pan, and spoon on Lemon Glaze, or your own special frosting or glaze.
Yield: One 10" Pound Cake
