Angel Biscuits

1 pkg. dry yeast

2 Tbsp. warm water
2-1/2 cups all-purpose flour

1 Tbsp. sugar

1-1/2 tsp. baking powder

1/2 tsp. baking soda

1/2 cup shortening

1 cup buttermilk



Soften yeast in warm water. Let stand for 5 minutes. In the meantime, in a large mixing bowl, stir together flour, sugar, baking powder, and baking soda. Using a pastry blender, cut in shortening--until mixture resembles coarse crumbs. Make a well in the dry mixture. Add softened yeast and buttermilk all at once. Using a fork, stir until just moistened. Turn out and gently knead until dough is smooth. Roll dough to ½ inch and cut into biscuits. Bake at 450 degrees for 8 to 10 minutes.
