  • Help with crawling My son's 8 months old and wanting to crawl. We have no carpets in the house. He would always slide on the hard wood floors. I found a carpet 40x60 to lay on the floor and a week later he could get on all fours. Now he's racing around the house. Submitted By: chrissy(Added: 18-May-2002 Hits: 0 Rating: 0 Votes: 0) Rate It
  • High Chair (keep from slipping) Keep baby from slipping down in a highchair by attaching non-skid tub appliques to the back and seat of the chair. Submitted By: sarah(Added: 8-Apr-2001 Hits: 0 Rating: 10.00 Votes: 1) Rate It
  • High chair etiquette early on! As a new mom, I've always just assumed that when babies are in their high chairs, it's perfectly natural for them to put their fingers in their mouths when those mouths are full of food and then run their fingers through their hair and all over the place! I also thought it to be "natural" for these infants/toddlers to throw their food off of their high chairs onto the floor. I wasn't looking forward to this particular stage, but I figured it was coming no matter what, and we'd just have to get through it until they outgrew it. Well...I then discovered that even little ones can learn manners early on! We taught our son at about the age of 7 months not to put his fingers in his mouth while chewing his food (unless it's to help push something in), and he's learned not to throw things onto the floor on purpose. He's learned to be a semi-neat eater who makes very little mess both on his high chair tray and the floor. Now when we're done eating, we don't have to immediately bathe him to get the food off of his head or out of his hair! It took some patience and guidance, but he learned in a matter of a couple of weeks. Now when people come over and see us feeding him, they are amazed at how "neat" he is in the high chair! It is completely possible (and not that hard) to teach your little one some respect at the dinner table (high chair) early on! I don't understand why parents buy these "messy mats" to put under their child's high chairs...it's like saying, "Go ahead...make a mess!" It doesn't have to be that way! • Homemade Toy Need a new toy...quick? Try filling an empty and dry 12 oz. water bottle with a few un-popped popcorn seeds. My 5 month old loves it. It's easy for her to hold and she loves to shake it and act like she's drinking from it. You can also fill a Pringles can with un-popped popcorn cover the whole thing with contact paper and if you want poke a hole in each end and lace a string or ribbon through. That way the baby can hold on to the ribbon and kick the can with her feet. To prevent strangulation, cut the ribbon in half. • How to Ease Ccraddle Cap What you do first is rub some oil on the scalp, massage 1-2 teaspoons of vegetable/olive or baby oil into the flakes to make them soft and easy to remove. Let it sit for about 5 minutes for it to completely soak into the craddle cap. The gently remove the loosened flakes with a wash cloth or soft bristled tooth brush. Then follow with tearless shampoo to wash all the oils out, use a mild shampoo "Johnson and Johnson" works for me. Don't rub too hard a babys head is very delicate, never pull or scratch at the scales it may cause their skin to get red and very sensitive. Dry air can make cradle cap worse so you can use a humidifier or set a can of water near your heaters to put moisture into the air. • How to help a fussy/hungry baby latch When your baby is having trouble latching due to nipple confusion, tiredness, fussiness, prefers one breast over the other etc..., try putting a little bit of gripe water on your nipple(if breastfeeding) or the bottle nipple. This works for me everytime and my baby will latch immediately even when crying and begin eating,it works for me everytime. • How to keep your baby clean on Public Changing Tables I used to dread going out & having to change my baby on a public restroom changing station because she always wanted to touch the big plastic part attached to the wall and turn over and touch the table (YUCK!!!). I solved this problem by giving her a wet wipe to hold while I was changing her diaper. Not only does it keep her from touching any part of the changing table. It also cleans her hands while she plays with it. Submitted By: Vanessa Stanfield(Added: 27-Jun-2002 Hits: 0 Rating: 0 Votes: 0) Rate It
  • How to shower with young kids When I first had my son it was very overwhelming because I was usually alone. So when my husband went away and I had Hunter for a week or more alone I got tired of not being able to shower untill midnight. So I had it, I got creative and bought a see through shower curtian with some bright colored fish on them. I sat him in his bouncing chair and played peek a boo with him until I was done. He loved it. It beats peaking your head out every 2 seconds which would make my shower longer. Hope it might help some single Mommys or Daddys : ) Submitted By: Holly(Added: 19-Jun-2001 Hits: 0 Rating: 8.00 Votes: 1) Rate It
  • I'll Pass on this Yucky Cereal Mommy My daughter didnt care at all for the rice cereal I was trying to give her for breakfast. I tried several things and nothing worked. Finally I mixed half formula and half apple juice when I made her cereal in the morning and now she eats it. I cant believe she wouldnt eat it with fruit but she will eat it with the juice. Hey, it worked for me. Submitted By: Kimberly Scharff-Snyder(Added: 27-Jan-2001 Hits: 0 Rating: 0 Votes: 0) Rate It
  • INDEPENDENT FEEDING When baby begins feeding himself/herself, give them a plastic measuring spoon!! The "pockets" in these spoons are usually larger than the baby/toddler spoons on the market. The deeper grooves also help cut down on the mess, as baby food sticks to these a little better!!! This worked GREAT with my daughter at the beginning of her independence streak @ a whopping 8 months old!! Submitted By: Michele B(Added: 8-Feb-2001 Hits: 0 Rating: 0 Votes: 0) Rate It
  • infant bathing tip When bathing an infant, I would always wait until someone else could accompany me so that one of us could bathe the baby and the other would be ready with towel in hand to dry. After realizing that waiting for an extra pair of hands wasn't always practical I discovered this tip.... if you have a bouncy seat for your infant, this works perfectly. Just drape your towel over the bouncy seat and after bathing, baby can easily be taken from the bath to the bouncy seat and then bundled in the towel. This is so much easier than the fumbling that I had previously been doing! Submitted By: Heather(Added: 21-Nov-2000 Hits: 0 Rating: 9.75 Votes: 8) Rate It
  • Infant Medicine Have an infant that needs medicine? Simply put the dose in a nipple for a bottle. The shape is familiar, so baby isn't as distressed by an unfamiliar flavor! Submitted By: Kimberly Cattermole(Added: 30-Oct-2004 Hits: 0 Rating: 0 Votes: 0) Rate It
  • Keep Bottle in Hands Wrap a child’s glass or baby bottle with rubber bands so it won’t slip out of tiny hands. Submitted By: Lia(Added: 28-Feb-2001 Hits: 0 Rating: 4.00 Votes: 3) Rate It
  • keep bottles cold while out When going out on a short outing and you need to bring a bottle with you for the baby, try putting a frozen freezie or two right inside the bottle to keep the bottle cold longer without icecubes that would water it down. works great for any bottle, not just baby bottles...ie: bottles of pop, juice ,etc. Submitted By: Jenna Breakspear(Added: 31-Jul-2002 Hits: 0 Rating: 10.00 Votes: 1) Rate It
  • Laundry Basket Bath This works great when baby has learned to sit up. Put a laundry basket in the tub (be sure it has a non-skid surface)and let him sit in the basket for his bath. He'll have a ball playing in the water, and he is "intact". Submitted By: (Added: 23-Mar-2001 Hits: 0 Rating: 0 Votes: 0) Rate It
