- Getting the Medicine Down
You can get youngsters to take their medicine by crumbling it and mixing it into their favorite pudding.

- Getting your children to drink milk
If your toddler like mine would choose juice over milk any day then this tip is for you. Put a few drops of food coloring in the milk. This is much more appealing to a toddler than just plain white. Give it a try. I'm sure you will be amazed.

- Giving Up the Binky
If your kids are firmly attached to their Binky's consider inventing a Binky Fairy (Just like the tooth fairy) Tell them that the binky fairy will leave them things in place of the binky's that they place under their pillow. That night with their help place the binkys under the childs pillow and after they go to sleep exchange them for a really nice toy of some kind. Maybe one they have been wanting. The thrill will take their minds off the missing binky, even though they know that the binkys are forever gone!

- Grocery Shopping Peace
Many grocery store chains offer young childern a free cookie from their Bakery department. When I take my toddler shopping, we spend the first half of the shopping experience talking and "being good" so he can receive a cookie as a reward for his good behavior. Fortunately the Bakery dept which is about midway in the store, so it works well strategically. The rest of the shopping experience is spent calmly munching on that cookie. Makes for a
less stressful shopping experience.

- Gum In Child's Hair
Rather than cut their hair. Apply peanut butter. Rub it into their hair and the gum dissolves right out of their hair.

- Hairdo struggle resolved
For those of you with little girls, the morning routine probably involves a hairdo struggle. My daughter (almost 3 at the time) came up with this idea. When making hairdos on both sides of her head (i.e. pigtails or braids), I used to tell her to put her ear on her shoulder. One day she asked, "Like I'm on a phone?" So, now we use a play phone to hold her head tilted just right when necessary.

- Handy Snacks
I think this a good idea for toddlers who are old enough to open the fridge and help themselves. I get a variety of fresh fruit (especially those in season) and prepare them by washing & cutting up. This works great for melons and berries (my son's favorites). I then put them in a plastic bowl or bag in the fridge. That way they are available for my 2 year old. He loves to prowl in the fridge!

- Help with Potty Training
This is a tip that worked for me. If your toddler has the potty idea, but insists on still wearing diapers, get someone with a newborn to give you a diaper. Everytime they ask to have it on instead of going to the potty, attempt to put on the smaller diaper and tell your toddler..."See, your a big girl/boy now and the diapers don't fit you anymore.....After a while, they will get the message, and want to be a big kid and go on the potty.

- Highchair
I was reading about using a round plastic tablecloth to cover the floor around your child's highchair to make the mess easier to clean up. Well, I tried it but I still had to wipe the bottom of the highchair off which takes quite a bit of time.
So I cut a slit into the middle of the circular tablecloth and fit the highchair into the middle of it draping it over the lower half of the highchair. I used a clothespin to secure it in the back. That way I don't have to clean the floor or the bottom legs of the highchair!

- Homemade colored shampoo
Just like the blue Blues Clues soap only doesn't leave tints on child.
Fill contatiner with regular baby shampoo, add as much food coloring drops as like for shade, and shake. Now they can paint themselves with soap - perfect for a independant toddler.

- ice cube alternitive
I read in one of your tips that putting ice in a toddler's glass of water will get him to drink it... yes this works BUT choking is a real hazzard... our families solution... go to the dollar store and pick up a few plastic ice cubes (you know the little shapes filled with water) they don't shrink when they melt and are too big to choke on! and kids love the colors and shapes!

- Ice Water
If you have trouble getting your little one to drink enough water, try adding an ice cube or two. For some reason, tots are fascinated by ice, and will drink it up. (Be cautious of choking.)

- Juice Concentrate Lids (for the kids)
Hot glue photos/words from magazines, cut a sliver through a cool whip or margarine container large enough to fit the lids. Makes a great toddler/baby toy.
Use the same lids and make a fishing pole out of a chopstick, some yarn, and a magnet tied on end to pick up lids and have a birthday game.
If you find doubles of pictures or words in magazines PERFECT, make a matching game for older kids.

- Keep 'Em Busy
I always carry a small retractable measuring tape with me. When one of my kids or someone's elses starts to act up in line or in a meeting or church I just slip them the measuring tape and they are happy for hours. Little ones like to pull the tape out and push the button to make it go back in. Older kids like to measure everything in site.

- Keep 'Em Busy!
When bringing your toddler along with you to a doctor's appointment (or any other appointment), be sure to bring his/her backpack filled with things to do! For example, my 4-year old likes to bring his crayons, coloring book, hotwheels, super hero action figures, reading books, stuffed animal, etc. And I always put a package or two of fruit snacks/crackers in there -- just in case the appointment runs long! Never fails!
