- Keep them busy
A spray bottle filled with water keeps the kids busy for a long time outside. They "water" the plants, fence, wash their toys, spray it in their mouths, etc!

- Keep them busy!
Since my 14 month old is into everything these days, I've decided to make it safe and fun for him. While most of the cabinets have locks on them, I have left two bottom drawers available for his things. Now when he gets into those drawers I know he's playing with safe items that are age appropriate. This also is helpful because I'm teaching him how to put back everthing he takes out. Kids at this age love to take things out and put them back into things!

- KITCHEN HELPERS
Does your toddler always want your attention when you are working in the kitchen? I had a "special drawer", just for them. All the other kitchen drawers and doors had safety locks, of course, except their "special drawer". This drawer was the closest to the floor and was filled with interesting items. There were small plastic storage containers, measuring spoons, and cups, wooden spoons (great drum sticks), plastic dishes, etc. Use your imagination, and never use toys, that takes all the fun out of it. See how they will be entertained while you are cooking or doing dishes.

- Kitchen Tip
While working or cooking in the kitchen, it can be hard to keep an eye on inquisitive toddlers who may be getting into stuff in another room.
A solution that often works for me is giving my kids washable markers (eg Crayola Washable Markers), opening the dishwasher door out (make sure it's dry first) and letting them scribble (on the inside of it)to their heart's content. When finished with the activity, no need to clean up. When you next do your dishes, the dishwasher water will wash away the picture by itself. The pens are non-toxic so it's not going to affect your dishes either. If they happen to draw somewhere else, it is easily cleaned up too. My kids are definitely kept occupied with this activity!

- Layered bedding
Reduce those late-night sheet changes during potty training by layering the bed with a regular sheet, a plastic sheet, and a regular sheet. This way all you have to do is remove a layer of the regular and plastic sheets, allowing everyone can get back to sleep quickly.

- Leaking potty
When we started potty training our son the potty chair was a good one but it still leaked or he would miss, so we bought one of those plastic tableclothes at wal-mart that are 1.75 and put it underneath the potty so it did not make such a mess we could just wipe it up.

- Learning Names of Family
Using a small photo brag book, add pictures of family members, especially ones your child does not see every day. If you can get pictures of your child with the family member that's even better! Add simple words such as "This is Jordan and Pop Pop." Or for solo pictures of individuals.."This is Aunt Debbie". Your child will quickly learn family members names. Be sure to include family pets too.

- Little Girls Dress Shoes
When your little girl gets a new pair of dress shoes & the bottoms are slippery , take a piece of sandpaper to the bottoms to scuff them up so the child won't slip as easily .

- Lollipop Flowerpot
Paint 2 inch flower pots with Indoor/Outdoor Gloss enamel. Divide a 2 inch styrofoam ball in half. Place rounded end down in pot. All lollipops (as many as desired). You can also put some Spanish Moss around top of styroball. Kids feel very creative with this simple craft.

- Make Picking Up Toys Fun
Let your small children collect their toys in sand buckets when cleaning their rooms. They can just fill them up and set them in the corner for the next day's play.

- Meals on the Go
My two-year-old has always been very active and would rather play and run around than eat his meals. I've found a great way to get him to at least eat while he's on the go. I use a small, plastic mug with a handle and fill it with his cereal, mac and cheese, tunafish, etc. I also give him a small rather rounded spoon to make it easier to keep the food on the spoon. He grabs the mug by the handle and off he goes. He actually eats much more when he uses his mug to eat. Maybe you'll find this tip helpful to get your toddler to eat his or her meals while on the go!

- Messy Eater
Put a hooded jacket backwards on your baby painter style. The hood acts as a food catcher. The jacket itself protects your baby's clothes from any messes. Then just wash your baby's hands and face with a damp washcloth or baby wipe when you are done. If you are out, you can place the jacket in a large ziplock bag, and simply wash when you get home! This is the simplest way i have found to keep my 9 month messy eater clean away from home.

- Messy Eater
Have one of those toddlers that like to touch their hair while eating food items that they dip in ketchup? I would put one of those new Saran Wrap disposable lids on her head like a shower cap. They are easily washed off for re-use. It saves them getting all that yucky stuff in their hair that is sometimes hard to get out.

- Mommy's Helper
This tip is for any parent who needs to do work around the house with a toddler at home. You can take your child from room to room and keep him/her entertained by having a small box of toys in each room. In the kitchen, a lower cupboard can be filled with toddler-safe kitchenware (plastic bowls, spatulas, measuring cups, etc). You can get your work done, keep an eye on your toddler, and the child can have fun.
